2015 - 2017 Kansas PTA Elected Officers

(July 1, 2015 - June 20, 2017)

PRESIDENT Denise Sultz

President Denise Sultz is beginning her ninth year on the Kansas State Board of Manager,s having previously served as the President-Elect, Vice President of Member Services, Vice President of Extension Services, and the Health and Wellness Chair.  She has Chaired the Audit and the Nominating and Leadership Development Committees.  In addition, she has served on several state level committees including the Scholarship, Legislative, Bylaws, and Resource Development Committee.

She was the 2012 Kansas PTA Convention Chair and has served as the Kansas PTA Convention Workshop Chair as well. She served on several positions on the Shawnee Mission Area Council and has served as a President, Vice-President, and Treasurer on the local level.  Denise was elected to a two-year term on the National PTA Board of Directors at their convention in June of 2010.  She was reelected in June 2012 for a second 2 year term and during that time also served on the National PTA Field Service Committee.

Denise and her husband, David, have three children, Keri (and husband Jeff), Lori, and Rob.  Their family is rounded out by dog Mollie, and cats, Twist and Callie. Denise has a Bachelor Degree in Management and Human Resources and an Associate Degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting. She uses what she learned every day in her other full-time job as a Staff Accountant. In her spare time, Denise plays handbells with the Shawnee Presbyterian Handbell Choir and loves to solve Sudoku puzzles.



Monica is the current Vice President of Extension Services, helping new PTA units form and mentoring their leaders. Monica is a former Field Service Representative originally representing all of Kansas City, KS schools which originally included Turner and KCK districts and after the two school districts were split into separate PTA regions, she also served as Field Service Representative for the KCK school district.

Monica is the current treasurer for Schlagle High School where her daughter, Melissa, is a sophomore. Monica started her PTA service at Hazel Grove Elementary serving in almost all of the officer and chair positions at one point in time. She also served at Eisenhower Middle School and was Kansas City Kansas Council President. Monica and her husband Jeff are parents not only to Melissa but also to their older daughter, Kayla and to their fur babies, Gizmo, Sage, and Catty. Both Kayla and Melissa are long time PTA members and have also served as local and state leaders.

Monica works at Cabela's at the Legends. Monica believes that as parents it is our job to help make a difference in our children's lives. She is proud to volunteer for an organization that has been in existence for 118 years and is still growing and changing to continue to work for "Our Kids".



Josh has lived in Johnson County, Kansas since 1995 and currently resides in Lenexa. Josh is the current PTA President at Sunflower Elementary in the Shawnee Mission School District and has been on their board for three years. Josh has attended the NPTA Male Engagement Conference and has attended several Kansas PTA conventions. He is a Realtor by profession with 30 years of business experience. He has volunteered his time serving the community in a number of ways over the years and brings that volunteerism to his local PTA. Josh and his lovely wife, Jessica, have three children and are fostering their 14 year old niece. Josh has a passion for learning, community, and family and brings his passion for children and the community to the Kansas PTA Board of Managers.



Josie is the current Kansas PTA VP of Member Services. Previously she was the Inclusiveness/Diversity Chair and has represented Kansas at the NPTA Emerging Minority Leaders Conference. Josie serves on several KSPTA committees including Early Childhood, Legislative, Family Engagement, and YAC. She is the Turner PTA Council Treasurer and has served as their President and Recording Secretary. Josie started her PTA service as President and then as Treasurer at Turner ELC. She has served in multiple officer roles at Junction Elementary PTA and is currently serving as 2nd Vice President at the Turner Sixth Grade Academy and also at Turner Middle School. Josie and her husband, Jose, are the proud parents of Jose, Martha, Esmeralda, and Steven. Josie has a degree in Business Administration and has her own business as a daycare provider and has recently opened her second location. Josie also translates for the Turner School District.



Sheila is currently serving as Kansas PTA Treasurer and as Region 7 Field Service Representative. She has served on the KSPTA Board of Managers as Membership Chair, PTA Store Meeting Assistant, and has also served on the Audit and Scholarship Committees. She has served as Turner Council President, 1st & 2nd VP's, and as Treasurer. She served in multiple positions at her daughter's schools; Turner Elem., Morris Elem., and at Turner Middle and High Schools. Sheila and her husband coached softball and she was involved with Girl Scouts and neighborhood watch groups. Sheila and her late husband, Greg, have daughters Krystina and Raychel, and one stepdaughter, Heather, and 3 step grandchildren. Sheila's family includes many furry children. Sheila has worked for Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 27 years.


SECRETARY Rachel Henderson

Rachel Henderson currently serves as the Kansas PTA Membership Chair and has represented KSPTA as our delegate to the NPTA Emerging Minority Leadership Conference. Rachel has been PTA President at Frances Willard Elementary PTSA in the KCK School District for two years and has lead her PTA to being recipients of NPTA's School of Excellence Designation for family engagement. Rachel also serves as Membership Chair for Kansas City Kansas PTA Council. Rachel and her husband Joshua have two school aged children, Kaiya and Halle. Rachel is currently pursuing a degree in education from Emporia State University. She is serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA for the Corporation for National and Community Service and is also currently serving at LiteracyKC in Kansas City, Mo. In her free time she enjoys quality time with her family, shopping, and traveling.


TREASURER Dawn Lalumondier

Dawn has been a member of the Kansas PTA Board of Managers for five years and has served as Kansas PTA Treasurer and Membership Chair, and is currently the Region 8 Field Service Representative and the 2015 Convention Workshop Chair. She is working to assist units who have lost their not-for- profit status and has also served on the Audit Committee, the Scholarship Committee, and the Bylaws Committee. Dawn is currently Treasurer at Westridge Middle School and has served as President and Treasurer at Comanche Elementary both in the Shawnee Mission School District. Dawn is married to her incredibly supportive husband, John, and has two very active and enthusiastic boys, Andrew and Cole. Dawn is currently pursuing a degree in accounting. Dawn is committed to ensuring that the finances of Kansas PTA are well cared for and that our local PTA's receive the help and guidance that they need to thrive.
